What Is Lip Blushing?
Lip Blushing is a semi-permanent makeup technique (similar to a tattoo) which deposits tiny pixels of pigment into the top layer of the skin on the lips, using a mechanical rotary device and needles.
This service is designed to create a more defined, full appearance while adding subtle symmetry. Lip Blushing can be used to simply enhance the beauty of the natural lip color or to improve the current shape of your lips. Lip Blushing can also be found helpful for color correction or neutralizing any unwanted light or dark pigmented areas.
Is Lip Blushing Painful?
Lip Blushing can be a little uncomfortable for those who are more sensitive, however, there is a topical anesthetic applied to the skin to keep this to a minimum to where it is completely tolerable and has minimal to no pain. (Topical anesthetics used may contain Lidocaine, Prilocaine, Benzocaine, Tetracaine and Epinephrine.)
How Long Does Lip Blushing Take?
Lip Blushing can take anywhere from 1-2 hours, this provides enough time to carefully assess each step of the way. We will clean the area, take photos, shape and pre draw your new and improved defined lip line. Once you approve the look, we will numb the area, color match you for the perfect pigment desired and begin the procedure.
How Long Does Lip Blushing Take To Heal?
Lip Blushing takes anywhere from 7-10 days to heal. In that time you may experience the sensation of chapped or dry lips until they naturally exfoliate themselves. You may keep the aftercare ointment provided on them for relief, faster healing and a healthy glow.
Initially the color will appear darker and more vibrant compared to the end result. Usually within 7 days the color will fade 40%-50%, soften and look more natural.
How Long Does Lip Blushing Last?
Lip Blushing can last 2-3 years depending on factors such as smoking, sun exposure, etc. These factors can speed up the fading process. Lip Blushing gradually lightens and fades over time until your lips slowly return to their natural hue.
Is My Touch Up Needed?
It is RECOMMENDED to Touch Up, as needed, for your best results. At your 4-week initial Touch Up we will ensure that your Lip Blushing has healed correctly and analyze your specific needs for best results. Each client’s healed results are unique but we do our best to create a consistent experience and desired look for all.
How Should I Prepare For My Lip Blushing Appointment?
No caffeine or alcohol 24 hours prior to your appointment.
• Stop use of any blood thinners such as, (Vitamin E, Aspirin, Niacin, Fish oil supplements, Advil, & Ibuprofen) for a minimum of 72 hours prior to your appointment. Tylenol is okay to take.
• We REQUIRE all clients undergoing Lip Blushing, (that have had cold sores before), to use an Antiviral medication such as VALTREX pre and post procedure, (5 days before and 5 days after.) Cold sores are a common reaction post-Lip Blushing if you’ve had them before.
• If you are suffering from chapped or dry lips, these symptoms could lead to infection. You MUST HAVE well hydrated lips for best results.
• It is RECOMMENDED to wait 6-8 weeks from your last Botox or Filler appointment to schedule Lip Blushing.
What Is The Aftercare?
The general healing time is 7-10 days
• Avoid eating temperature hot, spicy, salty or sour foods. (Use of spoons and straws are recommended.)
• Avoid wetting or touching your lips, kissing or similar actions as this can lead to infection.
• Avoid all cosmetic products, teeth whitening agents and smoking, etc. on unhealed lips.
• After every meal – gently rinse and clean lips with water and pat dry, then re-apply ointment.
• Gently apply a rice size amount of the aftercare ointment provided, 2-3 times per day or as needed until fully healed, using clean fingers. Don’t allow your lips to get too dry.
• Apply a clean ice pack in 10-minute sessions to reduce any excess swelling if needed.
• Do not pick or peel any flaking of the skin, flaking is expected, as this is a part of the natural healing process. Picking or peeling can result in scarring, infection, pulling-out the pigment and may alter your best results.
• Avoid tanning beds and sun exposure until fully healed.
Who Is Not Suitable For Lip Blushing?
It is NOT RECOMMENDED TO proceed with this procedure if you’re currently on any blood thinning medications. Stop use of any blood thinners such as, (Vitamin E, Aspirin, Niacin, Fish oil supplements, Advil, & Ibuprofen) for a minimum of 72 hours prior to your appointment. Tylenol is okay to take.
• We REQUIRE all clients undergoing Lip Blushing, (that have had cold sores before), to use an Antiviral medication such as VALTREX pre and post procedure, (5 days before and 5 days after.) Cold sores are a common reaction post Lip Blushing if you’ve had them before.
• If you are suffering from chapped or dry lips, these symptoms could lead to infection. You MUST HAVE well hydrated lips for best results.
• It is RECOMMENDED to wait 6-8 weeks from your last Botox or Filler appointment to schedule Lip Blushing.
• Women who are pregnant or nursing should avoid Lip Blushing. The risk for infections is much greater during these times and hormone changes could affect your healed results.
What To Expect During Your Healing Phase?
The Lip Blushing healing process should last about 7-10 days. For most people, that’s how long it takes for the surface of the skin to heal but it takes about 4-6 weeks for the underneath tissue to fully heal. You may then book your Follow Up appointment, if needed.
Day 1: Your Lips immediately feel tight, tender to touch and may be slightly swollen directly after your procedure. They will appear bolder and brighter than what they will heal to but will fade 40-60% once healed.
Day 2: Your Lips are darker and may still be a bit swollen, feeling tight and dry.
Days 3-4: Your skin is scabbing, flaking and the color is starting to fade.
Days 5-6: Your Lips start to feel normal and the flaking is gone.
Day 7: Your Lips have completely healed but the color is much lighter than after the procedure.
Day 20-40: The color has come back! There may be some uneven spots or patchiness, it is 4-6 weeks after and you’re ready for your Follow Up, perfecting session.
